Titleist Performance Institute Certified Assessments

At Austin Physical Therapy, golfers are placed through a Titleist Performance Institute assessment that evaluates the body in relation to the functional movements that are required to produce a consistent golf swing.  By evaluating a “total picture” of your body, swing, equipment, and functionality, our TPI Certified team of professionals can develop a program to optimize your performance on the golf course.

Titleist Performance Institute Training Program

After evaluation by one of our TPI certified professionals, we will tailor a workout program specific to your needs. Whether your assessment reveals that you need work on mobility, stability, strength, power, fitness, or any combination of the above – we will develop a program specific to you. By removing the restrictions and physical limitations in your body as they relate to your golf swing, you should be able to lower your handicap. As golfers themselves, our TPI certified professionals understand the importance of the “Body-Swing Connection” and believe golfers will benefit the most from a healthy and efficient body. Our specially trained team is eager to help you take your game to the next level.

Swing faults

We have identified that there are 12 swing faults common to golfers. A golfer may have none, one, or any combination of the 12 swing faults. The 12 most common swing faults are:

  • S-Posture (25.3%)
  • C-Posture (33.1%)
  • Loss of Posture (64.3%)
  • Flat shoulder plane(45.2%)
  • Early extension (64.3%)
  • Over-the-top (43.5%)
  • Sway (37.2%)
  • Slide (31.4%)
  • Reverse Spine Angle (38.5%)
  • Hanging Back (32.2%)
  • Casting/Early Release (55.9%)
  • Chicken Winging (35.6%)

What causes these swing faults?

Swing faults may be caused by one or any combination of the following things:

  • poor mechanics
  • poor conditioning
  • poor equipment
  • poor segmental stabilization
  • poor kinematic sequencing
  • lack of mobility
  • inadequate stability
  • strength deficits

As certified professionals, we are able to identify these swing faults and help golfers eliminate their physical limitations and barriers, thus ensuring the golfer’s body is physically able to produce the most efficient golf swing possible.

Upon completion of the TPI evaluation of these components, our certified team of professionals will tailor a specific workout regimen to address your limitations and enhance your golf performance. If you want to become a better golfer and hit the ball straighter, longer, and with more consistency, this is the program for you!
