Your body is a network …
Your musculoskeletal system is a complex network of bones, joints, muscles, and supporting tissues such as: tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. When you sustain an injury or have impaired movement, a variety of structures can be affected. In fact, the interconnected nature of this “network” can cause compensatory postures, muscle tension, musculoskeletal imbalances, and pain which may develop in areas other than the “real” problem.
“Abnormal forces” can affect your recovery
Most pain, impairment, and injuries typically result in muscle “guarding,” or have an influence on other tissues. This exerts abnormal forces on joints, muscles, and supporting structures. This can trigger muscle overuse and muscle-tension problems that affect your overall posture, range of motion, and flexibility or mobility. Ultimately, pain can develop at the site of muscle contraction. This means your body’s healing processes may be inhibited or delayed… especially if the underlying problems are never addressed or treated.
Using YOUR body to heal YOUR body
The Austin PT method is built on the concept that your relief and recovery depend on treating your problem and the effects it can have on the rest of your body. We use hands-on therapy, in-clinic, and at-home exercises to correct your presenting problem, and any underlying imbalances or issues including, but not limited to: muscle-tension, postural issues, or muscle imbalances. More specifically, we use “opposing” muscles to relax the tension to achieve neutral posture and full flexibility, so healing and pain reduction can occur.
Many methods combined for your recovery
Because your pain or injury is unique, our treatment is an adaptive hybrid approach. Here are some of the many therapy approaches and techniques we will use to treat your problem and restore your natural musculoskeletal balance for optimum healing:
- Postural Restoration Techniques
- Fitness & health education
- Manual Therapy
- Exercise programs
- Custom orthotics
